Bernice Johnson Reagon and Toshi Reagon are performers, composers, and producers in their own right, but whenever the opportunity permits the come together to form one of our most dynamic musical duos. Of working with her daughter, Reagon says, “Toshi self-produced her first recording at 17 and I sang backup and on rare occasions I sit in with her band BIGLovely.
“I find her my strongest collaborating partner in composition and producing projects. I also discovered several years ago that together create a very personal and special performance evening when we share the stage. Accompanied by guitar and shekere, we span time and subject through song and talk.”

WGBH production on slavery in America, produced by Orlando Bagwell and aired on PBS, Bernice Johnson Reagon created the score for this Peabody award winning four film series, accompanying her in the studio as singer, percussionist, and guitarist, Toshi Reagon.
